ISO 9001:2026 Arrives September 16, 2026. Is Your QMS Ready?
The sixth edition of ISO 9001 is scheduled for publication on September 16, 2026. It will replace ISO 9001:2015 as the current international standard for quality management systems.
Organizations certified to ISO 9001:2015 will receive a transition period to update their systems. The detailed transition requirements and deadlines are expected to be communicated following publication.
That does not mean organizations should wait to begin preparing.
Why Is ISO 9001 Being Updated?

Determine whether risks and opportunities actively guide business decisions or are merely documented to satisfy an audit.

5. Prepare Your People
Leadership, process owners, internal auditors, and employees will need to understand how the revised requirements affect their responsibilities.
Training should focus on practical application—not simply memorizing clauses.

Once ISO 9001:2026 is officially available, organizations should:
Obtain an authorized copy of the final standard.
Complete a clause-by-clause and process-based gap assessment.
Develop an implementation plan with responsibilities and deadlines.
Update affected processes and documented information.
Train personnel on the requirements relevant to their roles.
Conduct internal audits against the revised requirements.
